Pregnancy, weight loss, and aging all can affect how your body looks. What results is loose, sagging, and excess skin that won’t disappear despite eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. At Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery, we offer liposuction and tummy tuck surgery to both men and women who want skin tightening, fat removal, and body contouring surgery. These procedures not only remove fat but also can help sculpt your body. When you’re interested in learning more about a tummy tuck or liposuction in Tampa, FL, schedule a consultation with Dr. Brandon-Dzung Mang, who can help you decide which surgery will benefit your goals best.

What is a tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits in the abdominal area. Tummy tuck surgery is generally considered a more extensive surgery as it helps patients who have fat in the lower abdomen, women who have had multiple pregnancies who want to remove tummy tuck scars, or those who have lost a lot of weight to remove excess skin. This fat removal surgery also tightens abdominal muscles at the same time.

During a tummy tuck, we use general anesthesia. Dr. Mang will choose the proper incision type based on how much excess skin you have. For an extended tummy tuck, the incision will be from hip to hip. For a more minimal skin removal procedure, we use a less invasive technique that results in a small and far less noticeable scar.

Medical reasons for a tummy tuck

While a tummy tuck can be done for cosmetic reasons, it also offers medical benefits, including:

  • Correcting a ventral hernia: A ventral hernia occurs when intestinal or abdominal tissue breaks through the abdominal wall. This creates a pouch. Common causes are due to extreme weight loss, an appendectomy, or a C-section.

  • Decreasing back pain: After giving birth, some women complain of back pain because of weak stomach muscles. During a tummy tuck, Dr. Mang surgically tightens these muscles. This gives them more abdominal support and helps improve their posture, which can help with back pain.

  • Fix diastasis recti: A lower abdomen bulge is usually caused by diastasis recti. Tummy tuck repair surgery stitches these separated abdominal muscles together to remove this bulge, which also can cause back pain.

  • Resolve urinary incontinence symptoms: Stress urinary incontinence can occur when there’s too much pressure on the bladder or the urethra from weak stomach muscles or loose, sagging skin.

A tummy tuck in Tampa, FL can help resolve all of these symptoms for our patients.

What does liposuction do?

Liposuction is an outpatient procedure where small incisions are made and a cannula used to loosen and remove fat. Once this fat is removed, Dr. Mang will close the incision with sutures. Depending on the number of treatment areas, your surgery can last from 1 – 3 hours. Some common treatment areas are the arms, abdominals, back, calves, flanks, hips, or inner or outer thighs.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction is great for patients at a healthy weight in Tampa, FL who have areas of fat they can’t lose with diet and exercise alone. Your skin must be taut since liposuction doesn’t work well for loose or sagging skin. At Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery, we don’t use liposuction as a weight loss solution. It must be used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise to help you maintain your results best. During your consultation, you can learn if liposuction or a tummy tuck is best for you.
